It started with the rock, Val located it in a creek bed on his friend's property in northern California. He decided it had such great form and presence it was worth hauling the 300lb monolith 5 hours south to his shop

Cutting slots in the rock before forming and welding the primary bands around the stone
The base work, first brought to a dull red in the forge, then formed
It really is a nice stone, with a nice flat surface, it makes for an excellent bench
Heating the steel was the only way we could bend the 2"x1/2" bar. Here we started with the basic shape before compounding the curves
